How it works.

Three steps, online, with a person on the phone if you want one.

  1. Tell us about you.

Your job, your rent, who you live with, and what you’d want covered.

    Step 1
  2. Compare your quotes.

See the prices and the differences side by side, and choose the one that fits.

    Step 2
  3. Apply, and you’re covered.

The insurer checks your answers, sometimes with your doctor. Cover starts the day they accept you.

    Step 3

Renters’ questions.

Short answers to what people who rent ask most.

  • Do I need cover if I rent?

If you’d struggle to pay the rent without your income, income protection is worth a look. If someone shares the rent or relies on you, so is life insurance.

  • Is this contents insurance?

No. Contents insurance covers your things. This covers your income, and the people who rely on it.

  • What happens to the tenancy if I die?

It depends on the tenancy. A joint tenant usually carries on, and is then responsible for the whole rent. A payout can help them do that.

  • How much cover do I need?

For income protection, enough to cover the rent and the essentials. For life cover, enough for the people you leave to find their feet. We’ll help you work it out.

  • Do I need it if I get sick pay?

Check how long it lasts. Statutory Sick Pay is much less than most people’s rent, and many employers only pay more for a few months.

More answers

Already have a policy?

Claims and changes are handled by your insurer: their number is on your policy documents. If you arranged it through us, call us on 01302 590 852 and we’ll help you find the policy and the right people.

For a claim, it helps to have:

  • The policy number
  • A fit note, a death certificate or the doctor’s report
  • Proof of your earnings, for income protection
  • Bank details for the payment

Claim through the insurer

Their claims number and online form are in the policy documents. Most claims start with one call, and they’ll guide you from there.
